Upstream aviation accidents fall

Upstream helicopter safety shows improvements, according to data submitted to the Oil and Gas Producers Association. Part of the helicopter industry involved in exploration and production activities showed a 43 per cent reduction in total accidents over the previous year.
The 20 accidents recorded which resulted in 26 fatalities come from a wider sample, not just from the data actively submitted, says Technical Manager Don Smith.
“In any case the rate is the lowest in five years,” Smith added.
While no helicopter accidents were associated with geophysical operations, aviation accident rates associated with work on pipelines were found to be considerably higher than other activities
