Abu Dhabi’s most environment friendly honoured

The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) honoured groups and individuals that show commitment on environmental programmes.

The ceremony, attended by Majid Al Mansouri, Secretary General of EAD, Dr. Mohammed Defrawi, Managing Director of Shell Abu Dhabi and Qasem Al Taher, Head of Student Activities at Abu Dhabi Educational Zone, saw the awarding of 31 schools, 100 teachers, 315 students and a number of organisations for their efforts to help protect the environment.

In addition, the Agency honored the Arab and foreign communities that participated in its celebration of World Water Day. They included that Austr ali an Embassy, Syrian Embassy, Embassy of Palestine, Philippine Embassy and the Indian Social Center .

One of the highlights was the Environmental Excellence Awards, which is given every other year and are open to all schools in Abu Dhabi .

Al Afaaq Model School, Bait Al Maqdes School, Sheikh Kh ali fa bin Zayed Arab Pakistani School won the environmentfriendly school awards.Winners of environment friendly administrator award includes Mariam Mubarak Al Ameri, Pr incipal of Lulu School ; Meyada Qalagi, Pr incipal of Ashbaal Al Huda School and Sister Agneseta from St. Josephs School .

For teachers category, awarded were Yahya Abdelaziz Zayed of Zayed the second School, Maha Saeed Abyea of Al Andalus Academy and Violetta Musungi of PISCO Pr ivate School.

Student’s awards went toGhanem Sultan Al Tamimi of Ibn Sina School; Nouf Abdelmehsen Al Hosani of Al Reef School ; Wafa Jameel Abdelhameed of Qatr Al Nada School ; Sarah Abdelrahman Latheqani of Al Ibdaa School ; Tharinidi P. Siriwardane of Asian International School in Ruwais; Yasmin Mohamed Korambayil of Abu Dhabi Indian School and Eric Rodriegues of Abu Dhabi Indian School .

The schools were chosen on the basis of the environmental activities they had undertaken, cleanliness, garden, water conservation and recycling efforts as well as the activeness of their Nature Club.

The principals were chosen on the basis of their support while the students were chosen on the basis of their participation and achievement on environmental protection.
