The UAE's RAK Properties has launched a $2.72 billion luxury real estate project with ecology-friendly hotels.
The Mina Al Arab project will occupy 2.8 million sq metres spread over a beachfront strip and a group of islands in the northern emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.
Due to be completed by 2010-2011, the project will provide 3,500 rooms in addition to 3,500 residential units.
"For the time being, we'll be self-financing (the project), but we'll see how it goes in the future," managing director Mohammed Al Qadi said.
The project also offers 388 villas in Arabic, Spanish, Venetian and Mediterranean architectural styles.
The resort will include 310 hectares (766 acres) of open spaces, ecological preserves and landscaping, traditional water taxis, and recreational facilities.
