In an effort to promote environmental appreciation and showcase the hard work of students in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) is displaying the artwork, photographs, 3-D models, posters and research papers submitted by the students during EAD’s Environmental Competition for the academic year 2005/2006.
The exhibition, which is sponsored by Shell, is open to the public and is being held on the Ground floor of Marina Mall until May 7, 2006 .
The Competition was held under the theme “Green Cities: Plan for the Planet” and a total of 165 government and private schools eagerly participated. Overall, 730 entries were submitted.
Kindergarten students submitted around 184 drawings under the theme My City, while Upper primary schools submitted 273 paintings under the theme A Clean City. Intermediate schools submitted 129 3D-models made of recycled material. They were asked to recreate their vision of an environmentally-friendly city. Secondary schools submitted 114 beautifully designed posters carrying an environmental message that they wanted to pass to the public. High school students submitted 16 digital images calling for the use of energy-efficient technologies. Moreover, high schools students submitted 14 research papers, which were a result of their assessment of household waste in the city of Abu Dhabi .
An independent panel of judges oversaw the competition and they included experts from the Zayed University, Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil Operations (ADCO), a freelance artist, and officials from the educational sector.
The first three positions in each category will be awarded prizes in an award ceremony that will be held in Marina Mall on May 6, 2007.
