Umm al-Qaiwain Deputy Ruler issues new decree on aquatic wildlife

Sheikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Mualla, Umm al-Qaiwain Deputy Ruler and Chief of Police and General Security has issued a decree regulating the exploitation, protection and development of aquatic wildlife in the emirate of Umm al-Qaiwain.
The decree states that awarding fishing licenses shall be limited to UAE nationals not under 18 years of age, and to national corporate entities, who shall be members of the Umm al-Qaiwain Cooperative Fishing Society.
According to the decree, fishing boats shall be registered with the Um Al Qaiwain Coast Guard. The new decree totally and permanently bans, from 15 March till 15 June which is the breeding season of water wildlife, each and every fishing and hunting activities in the area stretching from Khour Al Ras to Al Otain and in Khour Umm al-Qaiwain area.
The decree also bans sailing for the purpose of fishing from 6 a.m. to 5 pomp throughout the period of permitted fishing.
The decree stipulates that whoever violates its stipulations shall be liable to imprisonment for the period of 2 weeks up to 3 months or a fine up to Dh10000. Fishing equipment of violators shall however be confiscated and fishing boats shall be seized for one to three months. Recurrent violations shall incur imprisonment of violator for the minimum period of one month or a minimum fine of Dh5000 as well as the suspension of their fishing license for 3 months. The decree shall annul all and every other decree that contradicts or opposes its stipulations.
