Keppel secures contract for first waste-to-energy plant in China

Keppel Seghers, the environmental technology division of Keppel Integrated Engineering (KIE), has secured a $8 million contract to provide the first waste-to-energy in the city of Jiangyin , China .
When completed by the end of 2007, plant will treat 800 tonnes of municipal waste a day.

Keppel Seghers will provide its proprietary equipment design and technical services for the furnace, boiler and flue gas cleaning components of plant.

Chua Chee Wui, Acting Chief Executive Officer of KIE, says “This repeat order from China Everbright affirms the strength and reliability of Keppel Seghers’ proprietary technologies.

“It is a vote of confidence from our valued customer that we deliver cost-effective and robust environmental solutions to meet the needs of our partners and customers.”

Keppel Seghers and China Everbright first collaborated in 2004 when Keppel Seghers provided basic and detailed engineering for the Suzhou SuNeng Waste Incineration Power Plant.

Keppel Seghers is currently the market leader for imported waste-to-energy solutions in China , with 60% of the market.

Currently, Keppel Seghers is undertaking waste-to-energy projects in Changshu, Shenzhen and Guangzhou .

Keppel Seghers has also recently signed a 25-year Design-Build-Own-Operate contract with the National Environment Agency (NEA) for Singapore ’s first incineration plant to be built under the Public- Pr ivate Partnership (PPP) initiative.
