Abu Dhabi to promote renewable energy

Abu Dhabi has launched the Al Masdar project, an initiative to develop renewable energy, promote energy efficiency, carbon management and monetisation, and water usage and des alination through supporting innovative technologies.
A corporation will be set up by the Executive Affairs Authority in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Co, Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority, the Abu Dhabi Environmental Agency and the Abu Dhabi Education Council to oversee the implementation of the initiative, a statement said.
The project involves a centre for developing innovative technologies, a university offering graduate programs in the field, a speci alized company focused on the commerci alization of Kyoto Protocol principles and an economic zone hosting institutions involved in the production of renewable energy products.
"The Al Masdar initiative will see Abu Dhabi become a global center of excellence for sustainable technologies," Khaldoon Al Mubarak, chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority said.
"Significantly, it will also provide a strong driver for further economic diversification and a transition mechanism to the industries of the future," he added.
