Concerning the implementation of the first stage of the project, the deputy chief of Port Said Authority said that it has been begun by the digging and building the wave blocks besides protecting the coast and the rims of the maritime canal. In this concern, an outer canal of 13 km in length, 18.5 mm in depth and 250 mm in bed depth has been set.

In his inauguration speech, Sharaf stressed the importance of the unique location of the port, saying that the port is not mere a container or a berth, yet a central point in the global transit and an active maritime point for the VA industries.
