Daewoo shipbuilding Receives New Orders for 8 Ships
Posted: 18 May 2005
DSME has recently acquired 8 new orders for ships: four 8,400 TEU containerships for French based CMA-CGM; two 84,000 CBM VLGCs(Very Large Gas Carrier) for Greek based Maran Gas Maritime Inc., and two 84,000 CBM VLGCs for Belgium based Exmar N.V. This represents a noteworthy 880 million USD in orders combined.
DSME personnel said, 'Recently, the price of vessels has been going up, so our business result will be much better.'
The containerships are 332 meters long, 43.2 meters wide, and 24.5 meters deep and can carry 8,400 containers at the speed of 24.8 knots. They will be delivered to their owner by May of 2009. The four VLGCs will be delivered to their owners by November of 2008.
With this order, we have posted new orders-including offshore plants-worth 2.4 billion USD, which is 41% of this year's target amount, 6 billion USD. With future orders such as LNGCs from 'Qatar Gas II' project and higher vessel price, our company remains optimistic about reaching this year's target.
