The Manitowoc Company, Inc . has announced that its Manitowoc Marine Group was recently awarded a contract to build an unmanned, self-discharging, bulk cement barge for American Transport Leasing (ATL). The 460’ x 70’ vessel, which provides a minimum capacity of 14,000 tons and features a computerized state-of-the-art cargo-unloading system, will be built at the company’s Bay Shipbuilding facility.
This new bulk cement barge is virtually identical to Integrity, an unmanned, self-unloading vessel that Manitowoc built in 1995. The ATL barge will be built and classed for ocean service, but will operate on the Great Lakes servicing 15 U.S. terminals. Vessel construction is scheduled to begin next month, with a projected delivery during the second quarter of 2006.

Additionally, this contract reflects a continuation of our group’s solid growth in serving the commercial maritime markets with a variety of integrated tug/barge concepts that serve bulk cargo and petroleum-hauling applications."
