Fujairah tops Rotterdam as second bunker port

Fujairah has become the world's second largest bunkering centre, overtaking Rotterdam and supplying 12 million tonnes of fuel oil a year, worth US$2.5 billion (Dh9.17 billion). Singapore remains the world's largest bunkering centre with a capacity of 19 million tonnes of fuel oil a year, according to a report in "Gulf News.”

Now it is followed by Fujairah with 12 million tonnes and Rotterdam in third position with 10 million tonnes. The emirate will be the site of the fourth International Fujairah Bunkering and Fuel Oil Forum (FUJCON 2005) to be held from April 9 to 13. Participants from over 200 organisations of 20 countries will take part, said Mohammad Obaid Bin Majid, director-general of the Fujairah Department of Industry and Economy.
