Four Categories Added To Dubai International Maritime Awards
Posted: 06 April 2005
International maritime publisher and events organiser, Seatrade, has issued a call for entries for the second Dubai International Maritime Awards (DIMA), which has been expanded to include four new honours this year.
The awards presentation dinner will coincide with Middle East Money & Ships 2005, a specialist two-day conference for the financial and maritime industries. Both the conference and the presentation dinner will be held at the Grand Hyatt, Dubai on December 12. In keeping with the non-profit making commitment of the awards scheme, a donation from the proceeds of the dinner will be made to The Mission to Seafarers.
“The new honours to enter the awards will cover outstanding contributions to the dry bulk shipping, liner shipping, energy transport and maritime services sectors,” explained Chris Hayman, Managing Director, Seatrade.
“Local, regional and international entries are welcome but the product or service must either have originated or be shown to have directly benefited maritime activity within West and Central Asia by year-end 31 August 2005.”
The deadline for DIMA entries is 28 September 2005 . DIMA was launched last year to reward top achievers in the region’s maritime industries. The inaugural presentation dinner was completely booked out by top regional and international shipping executives.
“This has proved to be an extremely well-received initiative which we will build on year-on-year to constantly reflect the growing and evolving nature of the region’s maritime base,” added Hayman.
The second annual awards scheme will also cover the following established categories: Safety and Quality in Shipping, Innovation in Shipping, Port Operations, Countering Marine and Atmospheric Pollution, and Education & Training, plus the highly anticipated Seatrade Personality of the Year for West and Central Asia , first won in 2004 by Mohammad Souri of National Iranian Tanker Company.
Once again the DIMA honours will be judged by a cross-global panel of industry leaders under the chairmanship of Efthimios Mitropoulos, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).
The Dubai International Maritime Awards are sponsored by Charter Trade Global (LLC), Dubai Drydocks, Lloyd’s Register and GAC, The awards scheme is supported and endorsed by Dubai Maritime City.
