In keeping with Recso's new role and mission of developing the Human Resources of its member companies, Recso will be organizing several training courses during 2005, which will be tailor made to the requirements of the Gulf region.
“We will be the link that will create cohesion between our member companies and will identify for them the essential training that they need in order to work together as a team in the future. Our aim is to create an environment of transparency and knowledge sharing between our members, thereby reinforcing a spirit of teamwork within the Gulf,” said Khamis Bu- Amim, Chairman of RECSO.
“We have scheduled five training courses during this year. The first of which will be held from the 26th till 27th of April, 2005. The training is designed for the Senior Managers in the oil and shipping industries and is called 'Crisis Management for Senior Managers'. The training's objective is to provide operational advice and assistance to the personnel directly involved in oil industry operations, tankers, terminals & port operations, and to help develop practice procedures ready for immediate implementation in the event of an emergency.”
The second training will be on the "IMO Model Level 1 'First Responder'". The course will be for 3 days and is scheduled for the month of June 2005. The course is aimed at relatively unskilled personnel to raise their knowledge and competence to undertake on-site clean-up operations. This will include a thorough review of spilled oil response techniques for both on-water and shoreline pollution. The course will include practical deployment of equipment to ensure attendees are exposed to the challenges and realities of field operations.
The third training will be on 'IMO Model Training Course Level 2 on Supervisors and On-Scene Commanders'. The course will be for 4 days and is scheduled for the month of August 2005. It is intended for personnel likely to be in charge of coordinating and managing a response to an oil spill. The primary role and responsibility of the On-Scene Commander (OSC) is to coordinate and manage the response. The OSC is responsible for the emergency response team, developing and implementing a response organization, coordinating the work of other agencies involved in the response, deciding on the response strategies and tactics to be used to clean up the spilled oil and coordinating the collection of information necessary to recover costs.
The fourth training will be on 'Oil Spill Response and Beach Cleaning Operations'. The course will be for 4 Days and is scheduled for the month of October 2005. The course is aimed at personnel from RECSO member companies and will raise their knowledge and competence to prepare them for undertaking oil spill clean-up operations. This will include a thorough review of oil spill response techniques for both offshore and shoreline pollution and focus on the need for preparedness through contingency planning. The course will include practical deployment of equipment to ensure attendees are exposed to the challenges and realities of field operations.
“Finally, we will conclude the year with a 'Seminar on Safety in Shipping'. The seminar will be for 2 Days and is scheduled for the month of December 2005. The seminar will address various issues related to tanker safety, pollution prevention, spill response and compensation. The seminar will be ideal for people working in the shipping industry, ports and harbors,” said Bu – Amim, while asking members to actively support these courses.
