Dubai Petroleum VP presents a key note address in the Mice Middle East Congress 2005
Dubai Petroleum’s Vice President Khamis Juma Bu-Amim delivered a key note address to MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions) Middle East Congress 2005. The event, held for the first time in the UAE’s capital, was under the patronage of Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Chairman, Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority.
The presentation entitled, “Environmental Responsibility”, tackled the present and the future of the Arabian Gulf, with RECSO being at the front line in preserving the region through the organisation’s “Clean Gulf” concept. Bu-Amim is also RECSO’s Chairman of the Board and the Secretary General of the UAE Oil and Gas Human Resources Forum.
“The Arabian Gulf is a highly fragile marine life and ecology,” he said in giving vital importance to the area. “It is almost a closed sea and it’s the only water way that connects all the Gulf countries with each other.”
“Thus, it is our prime responsibility to protect the marine environment from oil pollution. Each member should therefore share the responsibility of a long-term commitment to the ‘Clean Gulf’ concept.”
Achieving ‘Clean Gulf’ environment in the regional seas means preventing operational oil spills; stopping tanker discharges; enhancing safety on ships leading to cleaner seas and stopping all industrial waste discharge to the seas.
He said that “by preserving the present gulf, the region is up to meet a greater world demand for the region’s oil and gas; a greater demand for fresh water, additional power and desalination plant; and a bigger and faster development.”
The two-day event was seen with over 250 senior executives from major Middle Eastern and multinational corporations exploring issues within the Middle Eastern Business Travel and Event Planning Industry.
MICE Executive Congress has already revolutionised Europe and North America. With the Middle East establishing itself as one of the foremost leisure and tourism destinations in the world, the region has now become the fastest growing region for the MICE Industry.
Other keynote speakers were Reg Athwal, Owner of RAW Group of Companies; John West, Head of Public Affairs, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD); Johannes Pattermann, Managing Director, Johnson & Johnson, Marwan Halabi, General Marketing Manager, ME and Africa, Jaguar & Land Rover; Saleh Hafez, Senior Partner, Shalakany Law; and Peter Loakman, Corporate Advertising & Sponsorship Manager, HSBC.
