Russia lays down marine policy

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has warned that measures to protect the marine environment and enhance safety should not be used as barriers to free trade.
In an article published in the Russian language External Economic Relations magazine, he said: “This is all the more important because the main source of sea pollution… is coastal activity rather than maritime traffic, no matter how shocking the consequences of such disasters as the Prestige oil tanker accident off the Spanish coast in November 2002 might have been.
