THE Offshore Arabia 2006 committees met on February 15 and discussed the conference and exhibition with the many activities that are to be organised under its umbrella.
This time there will be many events within the event in an effort to raise the standard even higher. The conference is scheduled for the 17-19 December 2006 in Dubai at the Convention Centre.

The conference theme was revised to include a wider range of topics. The new theme is Global Partners for Energy and Environment.
The conference vision is: “To be amongst the best conference/exhibitions in this field. To be leaders and provide a prestigious, high quality event that adds real value and makes a difference.”
There are four committees that work together on different aspects of the conference and exhibition to make it more successful. The Supreme Council, which comprises of the representatives of every Recso member company, lays out the essential strategy of the event with its goals and objectives.
The Technical Committee decides on the theme of the conference and goes through every abstract submitted by speakers around the world to ensure that they are relevant to the conference’s theme and meet the high standards of the conference. The papers must add value to the conference and people attending the different sessions must feel that they learnt something beneficial.
The PR Committee will be in charge of promoting the event and managing the different activities under its umbrella. The Exhibition Committee comprises of the team at Index Conferences and Exhibitions that will ensure that the exhibition is put together properly.
Offshore Arabia magazine will be organising its own event under the conference’s umbrella as the official magazine of the conference.
This time the conference will be unique and exciting. There will be two new activities introduced to the event. The first will be the Amateur Photography Awards which will be open to amateur photographers with an interest in capturing photos of the environment.
The awards will not be specific to just the marine environment but we have opened it up to all environmental photos that are indigenous to the region. Only individuals may participate in these awards.
The amateur photography awards are to encompass the following categories:
1. Best deep-sea photography award
2. Best above water photography award
3. Best coastal/arid landscape photography award
4. Best aerial photography award
5. Best urban photography award
6. Best wildlife photography award
The second awards will be the Environmental Awards the first of their kind in the region and they will be organised by Offshore Arabia magazine. These again will have different categories but are not specific to just individuals but are also open to organisations.
The PR and TC Committees are to review the categories for the Environmental Awards.
For more information on these awards and how to nominate yourself or your company you can go to our conference website: www.offshorearabia.ae
We will also be inviting college students from all over the GCC to attend a special lecture just for them and involve them in the conference. We believe that we need to involve the next generation in this area to ensure that others carry on the torch in the future.
The students will also have the opportunity to speak to our member companies and seek advice on the requirements that these companies request for future job vacancies.
Dr Hassan Bin Ahmad Anbar the author of the new marine environmental book “Seas and Oceans – Miracles and Treasures” will give a special lecture to students on marine life.
Recso will also donate a signed copy of the book to each college that attends as a reference for their libraries.
The conference, of course, will continue to host international speakers and there will be plenary sessions this time with many regional and international dignitaries attending. The exhibition that takes place simultaneously to the conference will display all the latest technologies and solutions currently available in the field.
Recso will be organising two post conference workshops on the 20th and 21st of December 2006.
We are very happy with our progress so far and hope to run a huge and successful event. |
